For many government and military operations, the top priority for any communications network is security. Protecting the content, location, type and amount of information sent via satellite is essential to the safety of our nation.
Almost all forms of satellite communication have some type of security. iGT has taken extra steps to ensure that communications over our platform is secure.
The implementation of 256 bit AES encryption throughout the iGT product portfolio is just the first level of encryption to stop adversaries from intercepting information being transmitted over satellite. This level of security is often sufficient for most enterprise applications and even a number of government applications. For specific applications, like military communications or the transmission of classified data, a higher level of security is provided.
Transmission Security (TRANSEC) provides the highest level of security for an IP- based VSAT network. With increasingly sophisticated methods for monitoring satellite transmissions, all aspects of a communication must be hidden to prevent sharing even the smallest bit of intelligence.
iGT has implemented a FIPS 140-2 compliant system with TRANSEC that overcomes all of the risks inherent in a TDMA-based IP satellite communication network. There are three parts to the iGT TRANSEC solution.
1. Channel Activity:
Secures transmission energy to conceal traffic volumes. Uses free slot allocation as part of the TDMA bandwidth distribution algorithm to prevent an adversary from determining satellite transponder energies.
2. Control Channel Information:
Disguises traffic volumes to secure traffic source and destination. iGT has implemented FIPS 140-2 certified 256 bit keyed AES encryption for all Layer 2 and control information. This encrypts all information including the IP header and disguises any traffic characteristics.
3. Hub and Remote Unit Validation:
Ensures remote terminals connected to the network are authorized users. iGT has implemented X.509 digital certificates on TRANSEC remotes that utilize RSA public key encryption on all communication between hub and remote devices.
With the iGT solution you get the bandwidth efficiencies of our D-TDMA system and the security features of encryption, TRANSEC and FIPS 140-2.
Solution At-a-Glance:
Because It's What You Don't Know That Can Hurt You - Secure SATCOM is a necessity for our nation's military. Without it, an adversary can access information putting our troops in harm's way.
